Francis Thompson was an inspired poet of the 19th century in England who spoke of himself as The Poet of the Return to God. His most beloved poem, The Hound of Heaven, describes Thompson’s desperate attempt to escape from the hound’s relentless pursuit after his soul.
He is betrayed by all and finds no comfort, shelter or love apart from the mercy of Christ, whose love finally captures his destitute soul. A dramatic narrative on Francis’s opium driven life further clarifies the astounding moment of epiphany he had when with; unhurrying chase, and unperturbed pace, deliberate speed and majestic instancy he was at last found by the HOUND OF HEAVEN.
